It is never too early to begin to prepare for the next semester. The following are a few tips that should get you on the way to a successful fall:
- Conferences-many academic conferences take place in the fall, make sure you don't miss one you need to attend, especially those within driving distance. If you can't attend at least download the presentation abstracts from the website, they are great for keeping up with current research in your area. Don't forget business cards
- Courses-check your departments or individual profs website to see if syllabi are posted for courses you are about to take. If not, email the prof and ask for one. Its a great way to a.) know if you need to drop the course, b.) get ahead on reading by buying books and reading them over the summer, and c.) get a sense of potential paper topics and test sections.
- Funding-a.) make sure your FAFSA application is completed!, and b.) check university websites for applications for fall travel scholarships
